Dan Breznitz (US/CA)

dan_breznitzDan Breznitz, is a Professor and Munk Chair of Innovation Studies, with a cross-appointment to the Department of Political Science. In addition, he is also Co-Director of the Innovation Policy Lab at the Munk School and the Director of Academic Research. Professor Breznitz is known worldwide as an expert on rapid-innovation-based industries and their globalization, as well as for his pioneering research on the distributional impact of innovation policies. He has been an advisor on science, technology, and innovation policies to multinational corporations, governments, and international organizations such as the World Bank, the World Economic Forum, TEKES, IFC, Fundación Chile, the United Nations, and the US-Israel Science and Technology Foundation. In 2001, he was awarded the GTRC 75th Anniversary Innovation Award for Public Service, Leadership, and Policy for this work. In 2008 Breznitz was selected as a Sloan Industry Studies Fellow.

Professor Breznitz’s first book, Innovation and the State: Political Choice and Strategies for Growth in Israel, Taiwan, and Ireland, won the 2008 Don K. Price for best book on science and technology. His second book (co-authored with Michael Murphree) The Run of the Red Queen: Government, Innovation, Globalization, and Economic Growth in China, was chosen as the 2012 Susan Strange Best Book in International Studies by the BSIA, and was featured in The Economist and the New York Times. Dan Breznitz’s new book, Third Globalization: Can Wealthy Nations Stay Rich? (co-edited with John Zysman), looks at the challenges and opportunities faced by Western economies in the aftermath of the financial crisis and the rapid changes in the global production system.

 

Javier Carrillo-Hermosilla (ES)

Javier Carrillo-Hermosilla is a Full Professor in the Department of Economics and Business Management at the University of Alcalá (UAH), where he leads the INNOGREEN Research group on eco-innovation and circular economy. He is also an associate researcher at IAES and the Banco Santander Chair of Corporate Responsibility, a member of the Innovation Council at IFI, and a fellow at the Centre for European Studies Jean Monnet at IE University.

He has served as Head of the Department of Economics at IE Business School, where he co-founded the Center for Eco-Intelligent Management, and has held visiting researcher and professor positions at international institutions. His research focuses on eco-innovation and the circular economy, with numerous publications and active participation in media and conferences. He holds a PhD in Economics from UAH and an MBA with Honors from IE Business School.

Alberto Arroyo Schnell (ES/BE)

As a Senior Policy Manager, he helps to channel the knowledge and research results of the International Union for Conservation of the Nature’s network into the EU Environmental Policy debate. Based in Brussels, he also plays a facilitation role in institutional, civil and socioeconomic stakeholders discussions. In his vision, innovation policy is key to help us solve our societal and environmental challenges.

Extensive experience as innovative operations executive leading a metrology innovation infrastructure (LOMG) funded by Galician regional government to play an intermediate role among academia, industry and public administration. Specialties: Innovation; Entrepreneurship; Metrology; Total Quality and Project Management. Member of Business in Fact, spanish business angels network. Founder&Partner of SIL Engineering (spanish SME engineering firm). Regular participation as mentor at entrepreneurial inititatives (e.g. Crea UPM, lead by Univ. Politecnica Madrid) and as speaker at international and national fora about R&D infrastructures and their role within innovation ecosystems.
